Electron beam physical vapor deposition coating (EB-PVD) is a thin film produced by electron beam PVD systems also called electron evaporation systems. This is a type of PVD in which an intense electron beam is generated and emitted from a filament and directed to a coating material. The direction of the electron beams is via electric and magnetic fields. The incident beams evaporate the coating material (source material) and it settles on the substrate. The whole process takes place in a vacuum environment and can be ionized to improve the properties of the coating. The source material used for EB-PVD includes, but is not limited to, aluminum titanium nitride, ceramics, titanium, and zirconium.
