Disadvantages of this method include multi-step, low yield, use of various organic solvents, and disposal of large amounts of toxic waste. Alternatively, 7 ACA can be produced in a simpler and environmentally sound process using biocatalytic methods based on DAAO and glutaryl hydrolase for the enzymatic deacylation of CPC to 7 ACA.
