Dermal fillers, also known as injectable implants , soft tissues, lip and facial fillers are medical device implants used to create a smoother appearance in the face. The significant increase in cosmetic procedures among geriatric population is one of the factors driving the growth of global injectable dermal fillers market. Looking towards the demand for injectable dermal fillers, key market players are adopting various strategies including mergers & acquisitions, geographical expansion, partnerships and collaborations, and new product launches, to stay competitive in the market. For instance, in February 2022, Merz Aesthetics had launched Radiesse+ Lidocaine injectable implant for deep injection for soft tissue augmentation to improve moderate to a severe loss of jawline counter in adults over the age of 21. In addition, the Radiesse is also approved to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Moreover, the USFDA had approved the supplemental pre-market application (sPMA) in September 2021.
Further, in December 2021, Galderma Laboratories P.l had announced the launch of a new label for Sculptra (Injectable –Poly-lactic acid (PLLA)), an injectable treatment to smooth facial wrinkles such as smile lines. The new label approved by the USFDA includes higher dilution, new injection techniques, and the optional addition of lidocaine. The new label approval is based on the data from physiochemical studies, evaluating the safety and efficacy of two different dilutions of Sculptra. According to the company, the results demonstrated that 9ml including lidocaine was tolerated and caused less pain, whereas 5ml had reduced the severity of the nasolabial fold (NLF).
